We had some trouble finding our next stop as the turn off wasn't marked at all. And after driving around some, we finally ended up stopping at the lodge to ask for some directions. Then we were off to Pfeiffer Beach. We had been told that this beach was full of purple sand, so that was the real draw for us. But we were disappointed in what was apparently considered purple sand overall. There were little hints of it here and there. But it certainly wasn't "full" of it. None the less, it was a beautiful little beach and a nice place to get out of the car for a bit more and walk along the sand and listen once more to the ocean crashing on the rocks and through the arches in the rocks.
After we had our fill, we drove into Carmel and got checked into our hotel for the night. Then we found a nice little restaurant near the beach we wanted to visit there called Forge in the Forest and enjoyed a nice meal and drinks together and toasted to a great vacation and our last night away.
We drove down to the beach and called the kids the check in with them while I also adored all of the super cute beach cottages. Couldn't get enough of them.
We were hoping that the fog would part enough to get one last set of sunset pics on the beach. It did not, but we got something so much better than that when we spotted a pod of dolphins playing in the ocean maybe only 20 yard out or so. We watched for a while snapping tons of pics trying to catch them jumping. But mostly they just showed us some fin.
It was an awesome and completely unexpected surprise and we stayed for quite a while watching them, until the sun set and they started heading away from the shore. What a great ending to our last night away.
