With Grandma in place at the house it was finally time to start our be-lated anniversary trip. We decided to hit a few spots this year of some places we've never been and the first up was Lake Tahoe. We hopped on some early morning flights to Reno and then grabbed a rental car and drove the rest of the way. Our first stop was a trip through South Lake Tahoe and seeing the lake as we came into town then we drove straight to the Emerald Bay overlook to check it out.
We were also close enough to snap some shots of Eagle Falls from the overlook.
After looking around a bit, we noticed some structures at the bottom and went searching for the way to get down there. We found the Vikingsholm trail head and decided to take the hike down. There were a few calming babbling brooks to listen to and look at along the way.
Once at the bottom, we came across this fun tree and snapped some pics.
Then we walked over to the bay for some ground level pics and of course to dip my toes in.
Then we went looking and came across the before mentioned structures. It was the namesake of the trail and was called Vikingsholm. It was very fun architecture on a little cottage from the 1920's. The woman that owned it is said to have thought Emerald Bay reminded her of Scandonavia and thus she wanted a vikings home built. We snapped a couple pics.
And of course, since we weren't planning on hiking when we had stopped, we were a bit parched from the hike and the heat and I was delighted to find that there was also a small gift shop at the end of the trail that had ice cream! Score!
A great first stop for sure even with the long hike back up the hot and steep trail.
