Look Whooo's 2!

Last Sunday we hosted an owl-themed "Look Whooo's 2" party for miss Faith. We started off with the cute invites that Dad designed. Then it was time for the decor that morning. All the kids had stuffed owls so I borrowed them to put all over the house.

And then it was time to decorate the snack area ,the cake table and the present area.

 

 

And time to prep the activity area. I was able to find these super cute ceramic owls for the kids to paint and also let them color if they wanted and make owl cupcakes of their own.

 

 

The kids seemed to love it and Faith even picked pink frosting and had Mom help her make a cupcake.

We all had some fun with the owl glasses.

Then it was time to open presents.

She got a ton of cute, cute stuff.

Then it was time for cake and ice cream.

Then the kids played and painted some more while the adults visited and goofed off.

 And of course we left some time to cuddle with the Papa.

 

Thanks to everyone that came. It was a really fun party and she's one happy girl.

 

 

 

 

 

Salt Lake Comic Con- Day 3

We made it to the big day of Comic Con. And I finally got slightly less lame and dressed up upon much prodding from Mike and my friend Holly. Mike went as the Scarecrow from Batman Begins and I went as Robin. I made his mask out of an old gunny sack and Caleb's old sack of potatoes costume. And re purposed a rope dog toy into a noose. My costume came from many pieces off of Amazon to pull it all together.

 

Once at the con, we met up with our friends Scott and Holly who was dressed as my partner , Batman.

 

Mike and I got stopped several times by random people for pictures. We are probably on blogs all around the land. And we took some more fun pics of things and cosplayers (but not as many as we would have liked because of the crowds).

We had some fun and walked to the Cheesecake Factory and had lunch in our costumes. Then went and did a little shopping. But in the end it was all  about the mother of all celeb photo ops for Comic Con-ers. The man, Stan Lee. I changed out of my costume by this time but this is my favorite pic from the whole experience, even if we were in line for 1.5 hours to get it.

 

 

This day was so packed, they actually had to start turning people away at the doors and it was hard to get to most things. But it was still fun and next year will be even bigger. Oh Yes! They are already planning next year and I've already been told we are going again.  And Grandma has been told we'll be needing a sitter again. Thanks again Grandma Braska! With your help with the kids, we were able to make this a great experience for our first ever Comic Con.

 

Disclaimer (the truth comes out): Even if this sort of thing is not really my scene, seeing Mike get so excited and having so much fun is my scene. So I'm glad I went along, allowed myself to have some fun with it and spend time with him.  Therefore, I'm already looking forward to next year with him. I hope Henry Winkler comes back. If so I'm asking for a kiss!

 

 

 



 





Salt Lake Comic Con- Day 2

After a short morning of work on Friday, it was time to head back out to the Con. Mike got into his Clark Kent/Superman outfit and I wore my Lois Lane press badge (I know, I'm lame) and we set out for more fun.

We got in more celebrity photo ops.

I got a picture and some autographs from Brandon Mull for my niece.. he's her favorite. Meanwhile Mike got to attend a panel.

 

We happened upon Ray Park (Darth Maul) teaching some teenagers how to use their cosplay weapons.....awesome. 

But my very most favorite part of the day was when Henry Winkler asked me my name and gave me a hug during my photo op with him.....He's the Fonz. THE FONZ!

Salt Lake Comic Con- Day 1

This year Salt Lake hosted it's first ever Comic Con. And you better believe Mike was not going to let us miss it.  We bought tickets way back in about February and had been chomping at the bit for it to finally come. We got lucky enough that Grandma Braska was able to come and watch the kids and run the around for us to go and have a really good time. So we kicked it off on Thursday night. We didn't dress up this day since it was only open for a few hours anyway. But we did have some fun and got our first 2 celebrity photo ops out of the way.

We had some fun walking around and getting ourselves acquainted with the setup and looking at cosplayers. There weren't as many that night and we didn't take many pics. But we did snap on of this giant dino costume. Well....at least the head. This thing was huge and awesome. Hard to believe there was only one guy inside making it happen. 

Ottoman Makeover

One of our favorite pieces of furniture that we've had for a while and refused to get rid of when we moved is this big ottoman/blanket holder. But lately it was looking pretty hashed.

We've been talking about re-finishing or replacing it for some time. But we've looked around and there are none to be found anywhere that are this size. So refinishing was our only option. Then it took us months of saying we were going to refinish it to get around to it. It wasn't until we had to run to another store in the same shopping area as JoAnn's that we  decided on a whim to go in to look for something. There I found the perfect upholstery material. It matches the rest of the decor and is really pretty.  So with Mike's help we came home and whipped out the re-do in about an hour. And for under $40. Can't beat that! This is what it looks like now.

 

 

I'm super pleased with how it came out. We are getting pretty handy around here in our old age. Now to see how long the material lasts with 4 kids abusing it.
