My Carving Die-Hard

(long story before the pics sorry). This has been a rotten way to start Halloween week at our house. I have been sick off and on for weeks but Saturday and Sunday it really hit me hard. I have been in bed more than I have been up for sure. I ended up at the Dr office on Monday. It's some sort of upper respiratory infection. They prescribed me some meds and sent me on my way. Thankfully Mike was able to work from home all that day. It helped tremendously. I had called in sick to work that day and let them know I would be out the next day as well.
Yesterday was a day from Hell. I was still feeling rotten and Mike had no way to stay home again since there's an audit going on in his office. Caleb woke up at 4 am dry-heaving and had a small fever before school. We gave him some Motrin and he felt better so we took him to school. Mike went to work. Zaric got a small case of diarrhea and was just absolutely miserable all day. He spent most of the day screaming and taking small naps. Caleb then came home with a fever again and took himself straight to his bed for a nap. I was pretty fried. It's hard enough to care for sick kids but to do it while you yourself are sick is something else. So we were banking on Mike being able to come home a little early. Not only was he NOT able to sneak out early but actually ended up coming home 2 hours late! By this time I had really had it. I hadn't been able to take any of my cough medicine because it contains Codeine which will put me to sleep so I was coughing up a storm and ended up making myself sick in the process and having to take some anti-nausea medicine the Dr prescribed instead. There was no way by then I was even thinking about dinner so I got online and ordered some pizzas to be delivered. We waited the normal 40 minutes or so for them to arrive I paid the delivery man and got the kids ready to eat just in time to open the first box and see that one of the pizza's was completely wrong! Luckily the other one was right so I started the kids eating and called up Pizza Hut. The man on the phone was pretty apologetic and said he'd get me out the right pizza right away. Well that meant at least another 40 minutes. It was after 5 by now (Mike was still at work) and it had been a very long day. When I called Caleb upstairs to have some dinner I could feel the heat coming off him and took his temperature again, It was over 103! I lost it and broke down into tears and began calling Mike over and over until he answered his work phone. By then he was finally able to come home an relieve me. He came home in time for the 2nd pizza delivery and we ate and I finally took my cough meds and went to lay down. He was so calm about everything, it really took a load off and when I came downstairs a while later for a glass of water, this is what I found. It made the day all better, so I had to snap some pics before I went back to bed.

He finished all 3 of the boys and got his gutted and started pretty well. Mine is still waiting and that's just fine by me. Here's the boys'. Caleb's is on the left. He's pretty proud of the design and came upstairs to tell me that he drew it on with a marker all by himself.

There's more to this story though (hence the Die-Hard title). This year we weren't even going to carve pumpkins. You see, we are doing something different this year and won't be home on Halloween night so I really felt like we had no reason to carve them if we weren't going to be here to light them. And leaving them on our sidewalk unlit that night is just asking for trouble. So I had called carving off, but Mike insisted. It is tradition after all. But now I am glad for his stubbornness and happy that he spent that time with the boys last night and that I got a break. Sometimes it's nice to have a Die-Hard around. Now he gets to finish his and work on mine tonight. :)

Boo at the Zoo 2009

We love going to Boo at the Zoo for Halloween every year. This year was no exception and we also had awesome weather for it so it worked out well with minimum bundling required early this morning. We got several compliments on our costumes (especially my Leia buns and the Ewoks) and we got to see some fun stuff along with Trick or Treating at the booths.
Here is Darth checking out a Horned owl up close.

And posing with the Got Milk cow.
And destroying the big dog with his light saber.

Trick or Treating. Who's that handsome Jedi?

The Zaric Ewok hanging in the stroller.

Zaden Ewok. I got a smile out of him but he kept turning his head just right so the hood was over his eye.

Hanging out

We got the see the new baby giraffe and the baby elephant.

There were so many cute costumes there. Here are a couple of our favorites. Mike stopped these two and asked them for a pic. We also saw a Mario and Luigi brother duo.

And the dancing snowflake. There were 2 of these dancing around. They said the costumes themselves weighed about 25 lbs. I would never want to wear them but they were awesome to look at :).

It was a fun morning. Next up is a friend's Halloween party tonight. Stay tuned.

Go Grizz!

Friday night was SLCC night at the Grizzlies hockey game so since we didn't have anything planned I took advantage of the discounted tickets and we had a family date night. We went to Chili's for dinner then we took the boys to the game. Zaden was mesmerized and kept staring at the players and even yelling at them .

And Caleb was loving it of course.

They ended up losing 3-2 and we had to leave after the 2nd quarter to get the boys in bed but we still had a good time.

We hope to make it to at least one more game this season. Go Grizzlies!

The Last Few Haunting Years

For Caleb's first Halloween he dawned a giraffe costume. He was also a monster with this cute outfit Grandma Nette got him.

Next year he was a Little Knight. This is where we picked back up on the family themes and Mike and I joined our Little Knight as a Musketeer and a Bar Maid.

The next year we were Potato Farmers for our little Sack of Taters.

And the following year it was time for a little Flintstone action with Bam Bam, Barney and Betty.

And Last year we all saw the letter of the law with Policeman Caleb running the show. We also had the addition of the twins to join our group.

And Drumroll...This year it's Star Wars! Caleb is Darth, I am Princess Leia, Mike is Obi Wan and we have 2 little Ewoks. Can't wait to show these off at a Friends party this weekend!

Halloween is almost here! What are your little ones going to be?

Happy Birthday Papa!

Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday Dear Papa! Happy Birthday to you.

We love you! Hope you have a great day!

Creepy Crafts

It was also a weekend where I had time to play a little with Scrapbooking and with the Cricut. So here are a couple of Halloween projects I made. The sign above was a collaboration from both me and Mike. We really like the way it turned out. The bottom part says "haunted since 2002" in case it's hard to read in the pic.
I also made this little sign. "Broomstick Parking 25cents" I made it specifically for this little wooden broomstick I picked up at Tai Pan Trading last weekend. Mike put a little nail in the broom and viola! Need to find a better place to hang it, but overall. Love it!

Pumpkins and Corn

Yesterday afternoon was a fun day for us. We couldn't help but go out and enjoy the absolutely beautiful weather we were having so we ended up taking the boys to pick out pumpkins at a small pumpkin patch.
We played by the scarecrows and played on and in the pumpkins.

We pushed the wagon.
We pulled the wagon.

The patch we went to was part of the Crazy Corn maze. We love doing these things. We always, always somehow get lost. We did make it to every numbered marker in the maze, just not necessarily in order ;). Caleb also left a little present in the maze when he told us he had to pee right in the middle. So into a group of corn he went. I took a picture (like a good mom) but for obvious reasons I am not posting it.

Thanks for a fun afternoon boys.
